I’m sure you all remember my reports about finding donkeys, horses, turkeys, etc. in my front yard. Well, yesterday was a dead deer. Someone hit the deer during the night. Of course, since I live in the country there is no pickup of dead animals. However, at some point during the day it disappeared. I have no idea who picked it up, but I sure am glad they did. I was being invaded by buzzards.
Wednesday, Kevin and I went to Russell County High School. This is where Stephanie goes to school. One of her friends, Ashley, received a full scholarship to college because of softball. The coach from the college softball team was there for the signing along with her family, team mates, and classmates. She had invited Kevin, Renea and me. Renea couldn’t make it because she had to work. So, Kevin and I were there. It was really nice.
I have been attending church in Phenix City. It is the one where Pastor Andy, he is the pastor who did the memorial service for Jim in Cincinnati, preaches. I really like the church and feel very comfortable there. I am making a lot of friends. They have a senior group called Primetimers and I am getting involved with them. Anyway, I have decided to attended their Wednesday night services during lent. I went to the first one this past Wednesday and really enjoyed it. Apparently, it is a little different every week. We shall see.
Yesterday I did a lot of running; from one end of Russell County to the other. I was able to get everything accomplished that I wanted. However, today was going to be a finish up kind of day, but the weather is bad so I guess I’ll stay here and get my laundry done. Yesterday was sunny, windy and 80 degrees. Today is in the 70’s, tornado watches and threatening storms. After the front moves through it will be cold.
I am sitting at my desk and I look into the backyard. I am watching about a dozen robins scooting across the yard and eating. They are probably filling their tummies so they can hide during the storms.
If all goes well, we are all going to supper tonight to celebrate Renea’s birthday. She has decided she is not cooking tonight. After that I am sure we will go shopping. Meanwhile, it’s back to the laundry for me.

Good Morning
Things are improving. I’m feeling better. Not quite as down as I was.
I saw about a dozen robins in my back yard the other day. They were out there for a while so I guess they were finding plenty to eat. Apparently the bluebirds found the feeder because the mealworms are being eaten. I am going thru plenty of birdseed at my other feeders. I have a large variety of birds. Just don’t know what all of them are. I’ve seen a couple of purple martins checking out the martin house, but it doesn’t look like any of them have built a nest yet. The scouts come first so I guess that is who has been around.
The weather has been up and down. One day it’s 70, sunny and beautiful. The next day it is 40 and raining. We had 2 ½ inches of rain the night before last. Two days before that it was ¾ inch of rain. Today is sunny and nice, a little on the cool side. I just hope we don’t get a really bad freeze. I have daffodils blooming and the trees are starting to bud. Last year I dug up a lot of the daffodil bulbs that were scattered throughout the yard so they wouldn’t be run over with the lawn mower. They are the ones that are blooming. I am going to section off a part of the area in front of the deck and plant the bulbs there after they finish blooming. I have noticed there are a lot more of them coming up out by the pecan trees. I know spring comes early in the south. I hope it is here. I’m mostly finished with decorating inside the house. Now I want to get outside. I have a lot of ideas.
I’ve been getting things in order to do my taxes. That should be very interesting this year. In fact, I think I will have them done. I am totally confused regarding the state taxes.
I turned over the Des Moines website to the new secretary. I did enjoy doing the website, but since Jim passed away I think it was time for someone else to take it over.
I am going to start working on the family tree again. I’ve been thinking about signing up for Ancestry.com but not sure it is worth it. I am thinking about it. I have been trying to keep up with the updates. It’s the ancestors that have me stopped. Back to researching again.
Gotta go. Time to take my walk before the weather changes. I don’t walk far, just around the driveway a couple of times. I figure that’s better than nothing.

IT’S BEEN A ROUGH COUPLE OF WEEKS
I decided to tackle a project I have been putting off for quite a while. I have been updating all my journals from when Jim and I were full timing and printing the pictures to go with them. The memories knocked me for a loop. I have finished the project. Everything is now in folders. It will probably be a while before I look at them again.
I have been checking my emails, but not answering them. I have been checking Facebook, but not been doing much about anything I have seen. Some of the news has not been good, and some has. I am starting to come out of my funk now, so, hopefully, things will improve and I will get back in the swing of things.
Brian came to visit this weekend, and he and Kevin got a lot of work done. Brian hung two new light fixtures for me – one in the kitchen area and the other in the dining area. I wanted “pretty.” They look pretty. He also installed a new kitchen faucet. Because my sink is not real deep I wanted a “tall” faucet. It works great. He also put together the tables that go with my new deck furniture. He fixed the shelf in my bedroom closet. He tightened the screws on my toilet seat (I had put the new toilet seat on; I just couldn’t get the screws tight enough). He also put together the cabinet I bought for the bathroom and hung that. Brian and Kevin installed the handrail on my back steps. Meanwhile, Kevin was working with Ryan on fixing the car that he bought. It was a really busy weekend.
Kevin and Renea fixed us an awesome supper last night – steak, shrimp, baked potatoes, biscuits, apple pie, and brownie cheesecake. There went the diet, but it was worth it. The meal was great. However, Kevin wasn’t feeling good so we called it an early night. Renea took him to Urgent Care today and found out he has strep throat. The doctor gave him a shot and a prescription. He has been told since he is working at the hospital now he will probably be “sick” for about a year until his immune system changes.
Brian left this morning about 7:30 a.m. He stayed at Kevin’s in Ryan’s old room. Said he slept really well, but Stephanie complained about his snoring.
It’s sunny and pretty out today, but really cold. It went down into the teens last night. Apparently, winter has arrived. The weather report says it should warm up as the week goes on and we might have some rain. I have a lot of birds visiting my birdfeeder. I bought a birdbath about a week ago and they are also enjoying that. I still don’t have any purple martins in my martin’s house. According to what I have read they should be arriving soon. I also read where sparrows will use the house. My next door neighbor said the bluebirds have also been known to use the martin house. We shall see. I bought a feeder for the bluebirds, but it is hanging where I can’t see it. I know the bluebirds are around. I will just have to watch for them at the feeder.
