Tornadoes 3/4/19

First let me say we are safe.  It was a very scary day though.  When we were told that there was a chance of high winds and tornadoes it was decided that Penny and I would spend the day at Kevin and Renea’s.  They came over to help me with all of mine and Penny’s stuff about 11:30 a.m.  By then it was starting to get a little dark.  Renea had put a chair for me (I can’t hardly get down on the floor with my bad knees) and blankets in the hallway.  She also put our purses there.  We put Penny in the spare bedroom with the door closed so there wouldn’t be a problem with her and the dogs.

Kevin, Renea and I settled down in the living room with our phones and the television.  Things were quiet for a while.  The weather reports were that the worse of the weather would be along Hwy. 80 and south.  We live about a quarter of a mile north of Hwy. 80 so we figured we would be right along the edge of the bad weather.  We were watching the weather/radar on the Channel Nine new station and noticed that everything was actually staying north of Hwy. 80.  Not good.  There were tornado warnings everywhere, especially in Georgia (right across the Alabama border).

Then all of a sudden our phones went off with tornado warnings and the radar showed one heading in our direction.  Kevin has a great radar site on his phone so we were watching that along with the television.  Of course, about the time the electric goes out.  The radar was showing the tornado moving slightly north of us.  We went out on his front porch and looking north we could see the tornado.  It was the one moving through Beauregard.  Now, we are right on the Russell County and Lee County line.  Beauregard is in Lee County, but only approximately one mile from us.

Ryan lives in Lee County and from what we could tell, it was heading toward his house.  Luckily it missed him (it came very close) and he didn’t have any damage.  Stephanie and Ray live in Georgia and they came through this fine also.

We have friends who live in Smith Station where two more tornadoes touched down.  We kept in touch with them.  They were hunkered down in a closet.  They had no damage and are safe.  A lot of damage was done in Smith Station including the elementary school where their daughter attends.  They have a son who attends the high school, but I haven’t heard anything about that school.

We lost electric which came back on during the night.  It went off once this morning, but is back on now.  I did cancel my doctor appointment for today.  We are being told to stay off the roads.  I probably could have made it, but didn’t want to take a chance.

I have thanked God for us getting through this safely.  My prayers are with the families who didn’t.

Well, where's the pictures of the tornado??? All kidding aside, it sounds like it was really scary. Glad you are all ok.

Hi Marilyn, So glad you all are safe. I saw on the news about Lee County, and wasn't sure what county you are in. We just got back from Destin on Saturday. I had checked your blog periodically and was a little worried when you didn't talk for a while! I really forgot about your cataract surgery. That is miracle surgery! So glad you are done with that. Right now, we have very cold weather up here. Weather in Florida this year was different. It was very cloudy and foggy for most of the days. But warm. Didn't need to use my sunscreen! Spring is just around the corner. Spring springs eternal! So glad you are safe and you had a good winter with Jana. Take care.
