Starting Construction

Another foggy morning, but that is normal here.  The first of today's crew has arrived; Bruce and his son, Nick.  They immediately started putting the first wall together.  This will be the front wall.

The first wall is up.  It is actually the first wall of Kevin's room.

The first section of the side wall has been raised.  This is the "front" section of Kevin's room.  The next wall will connect to the "front" wall of my she shack.

This is the next section of that wall, and is the "front" section of my she shack.  Also, more help has arrived - Ryan.

Bruce is connecting the two front walls.  There will be a divider (which you will see later) between the walls and we will each have a door in that opening.

By now the rest of help has arrived.  It Stephanie and her boyfriend, Ray.  As you can see, the wall dividing mine and Kevin's room is now in place.  They are also working on the back wall.

The back wall is in place.  This picture was taken from the backyard.

They are in the process of connecting the side and rear walls.

This is the final wall. They needed all hands on deck for this one.  This picture was taken from Kevin's driveway.  The opening on the left will remain open because Rick's boat will be parked in that space.

An angled view from the backyard.

A view from the backyard.

It was now time for me to leave for church.  Also, the workers decided to call it day.  It was hot and everyone was tired.  Renea had fixed them hillbilly lasagna for supper along with garlic bread.  After eating, everyone headed for home.

Day of Cement!

The big day arrived.  It is Thursday.  I had a doctor appointment that morning so Kevin was in charge of pictures.  It was foggy, but that didn't stop them.

The truck has arrived!

The pouring of cement has started.

All done!

What a day.  I was home for the last two pictures.  Nothing will be done on Friday, but there are big plans for Saturday.

A Busy Wednesday

Wednesday was a busy day.  It was getting the area ready for the cement which comes tomorrow.  The guys arrived early and had their planning meeting.  The first thing they did was set up the wood to outline the area for the cement.  They made really good progress.  The third picture shows the progress at lunchtime.

Back to work after lunch.  They had Kevin using the tractor to add some dirt while they worked it and filled the low spots.

After that the guys ran the dirt compactor and finished smoothing the dirt.

Next was the rebar and moisture barrier.  We are now ready for the cement which is due to arrive at 8:00 tomorrow morning.

While all this was going on, Lowes arrived with the building supplies.

As it was being unloaded Kevin was checking to make sure everything that he ordered had arrived.  We are short three windows.

Kevin is now checking it twice.

Yep, it was a very busy Wednesday!

Moving The Big Red Shed

The first order of business was cleaning out the shed.  Ryan took care of that while Kevin finished taking down the lean-to.  Most of it went into Kevin's garage while the rest was just put in they yard.

Kevin had checked with a towing company to see if they would move the shed.  They said yes, but when they told him the price he decided he and Kevin could move the shed.  So, he hooked up his flatbed trailer to the pickup truck and they went to work.  Here they are lining up the trailer with the shed.

Kevin is now jacking up the shed so he can back the trailer under it.  They did this procedure many times in order to get the shed on the trailer.  I will not post all of the pictures of them doing that.  I took many and you would be more bored than you are now. :)

They are making good progress.

Almost there.

As good as it gets.

Moving across my backyard.  Getting ready to make the turn to head down back.

On the way.  Made the turn successfully.

They are now moving across the backyard in front of the garden.  So far so good!

They have made the turn and are now going across Kevin's backyard and getting ready for the last turn to park it next to the water faucet which is next to the garden.

They made the turn and are heading home!

Lining it up where Kevin wants it.

Success!!!!!

I was worried about the whole process.  It just didn't look too stable on that trailer and I was worried it would fall off.  I should have known better.

Demolition Day!

This blog will be a lot of pictures.  Some changes in plans have been made.  Because of the big drop-off into the new building, and the problem of drainage, it was decided to hire a professional to dig the floor and poor the cement, etc.  Kevin still plans to build the shed.

The plan now is to take down the lean-to, move the shed back twenty feet, and go from there.  Kevin’s job (with help from Ryan) is to take down the lean-to; also to move everything out of there, and get it ready for the “pros.”  So, here we go!

THE SUPERVISORS (SHELBY AND COPPER)

They have finished taking down the lean-to.  Now Kevin has to do some repair work on the fence so the dogs can't get out.

Stayed tuned because the next blog is moving the big red shed.  You won't believe how they did it!
