Mom's She Shack and More

Construction has begun.  This past weekend Kevin and Ryan started marking off the area where the shed will be.  They also started the digging using Kevin’s tractor.  However, not long after they started they had to leave and go to Atlanta to pick up Ryan’s friend, Steven, and his truck which has broken down.  That ended the work for the day.

Saturday Kevin was at it bright and early again.  This time Steven came over and worked with Kevin.  They made a lot of progress.  The area has been cleared out and they started the framing.  By this time they called it a day. I don’t know how they are working in this heat, but they are determined.

Sunday Kevin and Ryan were at it again.  The area is now framed.  Next step is the rebar.  However, that has to be welded and it is now raining so they can’t bring the welder outside.  By the way, Kevin has been teaching Ryan how to use the tractor.  Work is on hold for now.

I am sorry to say that I didn’t get pictures of Kevin, Ryan and/or Steven working on the digging, etc.  However, here are a few pictures that I took after they were finished.  I will try to do better.

They shed will be 40’ x 24’ when finished with 12 foot walls/roof.  One side will house Rick’s pontoon boat (pictured below), then the other side will be divided into two rooms.  They will be 20’ x 12’.  One will be my She Shack and the other will be for Kevin to use.  I can’t wait until my room is finished so I can get my quilting stuff out there.

We have had quite a bit of rain on Wednesday and Thursday so no work has been done on the shed.  Of course, now the grass needs cutting.

NOTE:  When not working on the shed Kevin is working on his fishing rods.  Renea helps him.  She specifically designs them.  They are doing a great job.  If you haven’t already done so, check out his website:  www.opelikarods.com.  Ryan has been helping him with the website; i.e. design, etc.  I think they are doing a great job.  They are also on facebook.

Didn’t get any outside work done the past couple of days because of the rain.  Today Kevin is mowing the grass.  No rain today, but it sure is hot.

Okay, so now you have heard the first story of the new shed.  Well, there has been changes.  Because of a drainage problem (easiest description) it has been decided that the lean-to will be torn down and the shed will be moved back twenty feet.  Kevin will be taking down the lean-to next week.  After the shed is built he plans to build a new lean-to behind it.

Wow! At first I thought that was going to be one HUGE she shack for you! Then I read about the multiple uses of the building, and the dimensions of each room. You have one awesome son to do that for you! And yes, you need to be better at taking pictures of them working. Haha! So exciting!
