It’s
been a busy week. I am not going to do
this in any specific order because, well, just because.
Kevin
and I had purchased “trees” from Arbor Day and decided to
plant them in containers. As you probably know, they come as nothing more than little sticks. The previous trees we had purchased didn’t survive when we planted them into the ground, so we decided to try something different. After Kevin planted them in the containers he
put them next to his shed and outside the fence (so the dogs couldn’t get
them). They are doing great. Now that he is moving his shed and constructing
the new building he had to move the trees.
They are now on my deck. He put
them there hoping the deer won’t bother them. This week I ordered larger containers so we can transplant them one more time before planting them in the ground.
Earlier
this week we had some wind, not too bad, but enough to cause a very large tree limb
to break off and fall from the large pecan tree in the front yard.
Then,
lo and behold, a few days later we had some more wind and down came another
large tree limb from the same tree.
Kevin
has decided that the tree is dying limb by limb. So sad.
I did some research on pecan trees and found that they can live for as
long as 300 years. As big as this tree
is we think it is probably between 100 and 150 years old. The last two years the pecans were not
good. We hate the thought of cutting it
down because even if it doesn’t produce pecans any longer, it is a pretty tree.
We
have had some rain this week so that has helped the grass and trees (and
weeds). Of course, rain this time of
year comes with a lot of thunder and lightning.
Friday
afternoon I drove to Sunday’s Best Quiltworks in Ellerslie, GA, for a class on
making T-Shirt Quilts. I had a great
time. The class was for three hours, but
I was there almost four hours. There
were only two of us in the class; one guy and me. It was great because we both received a lot
of one-on-one training. The teacher was
awesome. I learned a lot. I should be able to finish the quilt by
myself. I am using her training, and
what I learned from Rose (in Cincinnati).
I am actually making a NASCAR quilt using t-shirts of drivers I
like. This is a picture of just one
row. It will be three across and four
down so I have a ways to go.
Saturday
I went back to SBQ and listened to a lecture given by Linda. She owns the place. She is a Quilt Historian, and so knowledgeable. The lecture was about quilts from pre Civil
War, Civil War, and post Civil War. She
had quilts that she showed us from that time.
Linda explained why they used the colors and materials in their quilts,
and how they actually made summer quilts and winter quilts. It was very interesting and I am so glad I
attended.
After
the lecture I went to Mass, came home, had supper, fed Penny, let the dogs out
next door, gave them a treat and fresh water.
Came back home and was in bed before 10:00. I was tired.
Today is catch up day. And,
spending time with Penny. The way she is
acting I think she has missed me. She is
following me everywhere.

Hey Hey Hey! I love your quilt...especially the Jimmie part! That's a great idea making it out of t shirts!
We are constantly picking up branches that fall out of our trees. It's a shame.
